Global Challenges Research Fund
The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a £1.5 billion fund that is administered through UKRI's Economic and Social Research Council. It forms part of the UK's Official Development Assistance commitment to support cutting-edge research which addresses the most pressing problems faced by developing countries. The fund addresses the UN SDGs, and it aims to maximise the impact of research and innovation to improve lives and opportunity in the developing world.

Launched in April 2018, the United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy. The organisation brings together the seven disciplinary research councils; Research England, which is responsible for supporting research and knowledge exchange at higher education institutions in England; and the UK's innovation agency, Innovate UK.

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), based in Accra, Ghana, is a network of universities from different African countries and diverse historical backgrounds, but with a common vision. ARUA aims to enhance research and graduate training in member universities through a number of channels, including the setting up of Centres of Excellence to be hosted by member universities.
