Dr Selma Karuaihe is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development and the Associate Coordinator of the South African SDG Hub at the University of Pretoria (UP). She is a resource and environmental economist with extensive international teaching, research, and consultancy experience at different institutions and in different capacities.
Dr Karuaihe is interested in development and issues arising from utilisation of natural and environmental resources for sustainable development. She has a sound understanding and knowledge of macro and micro economics as well as data collection and analysis using various techniques.
She is currently the President of the African Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. In her career, Dr Karuaihe has coordinated various projects with the UN Development Programme and with public and private institutions, which produced both policy-relevant and academic outputs.
