Prof. Irene S. Egyir is an agriculturalist by training and has over 30 years’ experience in teaching and researching agricultural economics and agribusiness subjects.
She obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana in 2004 and has since worked with policymakers and development partner agencies in Ghana to design policies that incentivise small-scale actors in the agricultural value chain. She is an Executive Committee member of the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Food Systems (ARUA-SFS) – hosted by the University of Pretoria in collaboration with two core partner institutions (University of Nairobi and University of Ghana) – and also serves as chair of the ARUA-SFS Management Committee for the University of Ghana.
Prof. Egyir manages a 3-acre mango plantation, sells brown rice as a past time, and engages in swimming and dancing to good music as hobbies.
