Prof. Joyce Maina

Prof. Joyce Maina is an Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, in the Department of Animal Production. She is an animal nutritionist, specialising in the nutrition of monogastric animals. Before joining the University of Nairobi, she worked with the Ministry of Agriculture as a District Extension Coordinator. She also worked with the Ministry of Livestock Development as a tutor at the Animal Health and Industry Training Institute (AHITI), Kabete, and as head of the Poultry Section in the Ministry. Her career goal is to build capacity, provide leadership and mentorship, and contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kenya through generation and dissemination of relevant knowledge, skills, and technologies in agriculture. Joyce was recently part of an inter-institutional team implementing a project on “Building a strategic framework for aquaculture education in Kenya”. As part of this team, she organised the first All Africa Post-Harvest Congress in Nairobi. She is also currently a member of the inter-institutional team organising the International Grasslands and International Rangelands conference to be held in Nairobi in 2021. She was one of the speakers in an event organized by USAID on “Connecting the Dots: Strengthening African R&D, a dialogue with African Diaspora in the United States” during the Grand Challenges meeting in Washington in October 2017.  Joyce and her research team have published 29 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented over 50 papers in national and international conferences. In her spare time, she enjoys reading fiction novels and motivational books.
