Despite the documented benefits of Moringa as a feed additive for broilers, its adoption in South Africa remains limited due to a lack of awareness and information among farmers. While Moringa can significantly enhance growth rates, boost immunity, and reduce mortality, only a small proportion of farmers are currently incorporating it into their feeding routines. To address this, targeted education and dissemination of clear guidelines on Moringa’s use, including dosage, application methods, and potential cost-benefits, are essential.
The integration of Moringa into South African broiler feed aligns with the broader agricultural vision of a sustainable, inclusive, and job-creating sector. By utilizing Moringa as an alternative feed ingredient, farmers can contribute to responsible antibiotic stewardship while simultaneously creating new market opportunities for Moringa producers. This increased demand for Moringa could lead to the scaling up of production, generating green jobs, particularly for women and youth who are often involved in harvesting and processing.
